Other interactions are possible using intelligent monitoring of doors and windows to decide whether movement detected in the house is legitimate or whether you should be alerted to what is going on.

An alarm system can also be integrated into the home automation system, so that when the alarm is sounded, interior and exterior lights can be switched on, or other actions triggered, even as far as turning on a music system. This increases the effect of the alarm sounder alone, and is often enough to deter an intruder.
