Home Energy Management

"Affordable smart homes for lower carbon footprint"

Automating building performance and functionality, including the use of resources like electricity and water, make homes more desirable by lowering running costs, reducing their carbon footprint and offering convenience and comfort to enhance your lifestyle.

Our demanding lifestyles mean that being able to monitor and control heating, ventilation, lighting, security and entertainment in a home is a feature that home owners truly value and aspire to.

Intelligently modulating the heating system by monitoring weather forecasts and occupancy (presence) together with controlling lights more effectively can significantly help reduce energy use. The monitoring, identification and display of energy use in a home also heightens the occupants awareness and encourages behaviour change to reduce energy demands further.

User Controls for Home Energy Management

A range of user controls are available on the user interface that allow the home users to indicate their current preferances for heating, for example they call for heating or change set points. These changes persist until the next scheduled control for that function. Controls can even be set remotely, allowing you to reduce the heating if you are not planning on returning that day, or turn it up while already on your way home.

Smart Heating Decisions

This function takes the control inputs from either the master schedule or home users and decides which heating functions will be operated.

For example, if at 05:00AM there is a call for central heating, the outside and inside temperatures along with home occupancy are taken into account before the boiler is called. If the boiler is called and at some point later the outside temperature rises above the set threshold the boiler will be cancelled.

If there are multiple heat sources available then the decision making can be more complex, for example in mild weather conditions there may be a preference to use electrically heated floors before using a central boiler

Energy Efficiency: Interaction with Occupancy and Sleep

One of the key ways of saving energy is not to use it when you don't need it. Therefore the heating functions interact with the Occupancy and Sleep states to modify controls and setpoints to minimise energy use but keep the fabric of the home safe. In the case of a Vacation, scheduled calls are not issued but the home is heated should temperatures fall near to the 'frost' settings. For Sleep, the setpoints are moved to cooler levels that save energy but allow the home to be returned to comfort levels quickly.
